July 31, 2007.On Tuesday, Marc Anthony was at the New York City Police Foundation gala in The Waldorf Hotel. He took some time to talk with Cindy Adams from the New York Post. This is the first time he publicly talks about the babies, Emme & Max.

“I’m a lifelong New Yorker,” Marc told [Cindy Adams]. “I’ve always worked for the NYPD and done fund-raisers for fallen police officers. Five years ago Ray Kelly helped me organize a Hispanic presentation. So when he called last week and invited me - even though I’m a little busy with our babies, I came. This is my first time out of the house since the babies came.

I told Jennifer, nothing you do is small. Everything you do is on such large scale. The first time out you give birth to twins. And I’m so excited. I’m so hands-on with them that the household developed a nickname for me. They call me the Burp Whisperer.”

The evening’s host was Ellen Barkin. So how come?

“Listen, I was born in The Bronx, 1775 Bryant Ave. The beat cops were our friends. They’d watch my parents’ grocery store, keep their eyes on us while we shopped. They taught us how to cross the street. They partook in our neighborhood poker game, which we didn’t play with real money. I love cops. I’m actually about to start a movie here with Wesley Snipes and Don Cheadle. It’s called ‘Brooklyn’s Finest.’ And I’m playing a cop!”

Per Harper’s Bazaar publisher Valerie Salembier, the foundation’s chairwoman, the evening raised $1.8 mil. Also lots of political chat. Like our former Mayor David Dinkins saying what a good man our soon-to-be Gov. David Paterson is. Like that supermarket billionaire looking to be Mayor John Catsimatidis. Unfazed by qué pasa with rich men in politics, he’ll declare in four weeks.
